One of the best business books I've ever read!

This title is sort of misleading, but this book is a must read for business people. The stories he talks about getting taken advantage of, and how he corrects it have helped me tremendously in my sales and marketing career.
Take this book SERIOUSLY.

Robert Ringer, you are so freaking awesome !

I enjoyed this book so much. I read a lot of business books, and this one was so entertaining, suspenseful, deep, full of lessons - all in one. O, I forgot hilarious. I finished the book, and started reading it from page 1 again. I started checking out the author's other books. I'm currently reading Million Dollar Habits. His books do have a tendency to have misleading titles. Although I haven't finished reading Million Dollar Habits, they are really about an outlook of life that serves you well. Really enjoying that book too.

Interesting and fun to read but dated and of limited interest

Rober Ringer's book, Winning Through Intimidation, was first published in 1973 and quickly became a best seller. As Ringer himself states, the title is misleading in that the book's true intent is to help people avoid being intimadated by other. The book is written in an entertaining fashion and sprinkled with cartoons. However many of the ideas have been covered better in recent years and Ringer largely focuses on his experience in real estate as the basis for his observations. Thus I only give it a three star rating.
The main point that Ringer makes is what he calls the Theory of Reality. Reality is not what you wish it to be or assume it to be, but is the way things actually are. The biggest cause of failure in business and life is our inability to recognize reality.
Ringer also poses four other "cornerstone ideas. (1) The Theory of Relatively. To decide on a course of action you should weigh all factors in a relative light. For example, honest is relative; some people are more honest than others. (2) The Theory of Relevance. No matter how interesting somethng is what is important is how relevant is it--how important is it to you. (3) The Morality Theory. Aim high and move fast because life is short. (4) The Ice Ball Theory. Don't take yourself too seriouisly because everything dies, including the earth that will become an ice ball many million years from now.
I think the most useful point Ringer makes is to behave like a tortoise and not a hare. Aim for the long term success, not the short term one. A fun book and somewhat useful. A quick read if you skip over the stories he tells about his real estate dealings.
