ASTONISHING ESSENTIAL ARCHITECTURAL GRAPHICS GUIDE!!

Are you an architectural digital designer? If you are, then this book is for you. Author Francis D. K. Ching, has done an outstanding job of writing a 6th edition of a book that is unique in its use of digital media to convey and clarify the essential principles of graphic communication.

Author Ching, begins by introducing the pencils and pens that are necessary for inscribing lines, the instruments available for guiding the eye and hand, while drawing, and the surfaces suitable for receiving the drawn lines. In addition, he describes the techniques and pointers for drafting lines, constructing geometric figures and shapes, and performing such operations as subdividing a given length into a number of equal parts. The author, also presents three major drawing systems (multiview, paraline, and perspective drawings), the principles behind their construction, and their resulting pictorial characteristics. Then, he continues by showing you how multiview drawings comprise the drawing types we know as plans, elevations and sections. The author then gets you up to speed regarding how paraline drawings include a subset of orthographic projections known as axonometric projections (the isometric, diametric, and trimetric projections); as well as, the entire class of oblique projections. Next, he describes how linear perspective drawings offer scenes of an optical reality: How a construction or environment might appear to the eye of an observer looking in a specific direction from a particular vantage point in space. In addition, the author focuses on the principles that regulate how well a composition of lines and shapes conveys the illusion of a three-dimensional construction or spatial environment on a two-dimensional surface, be it a sheet of paper, and illustration board, or a computer monitor. He also shows you why it's important to render the context in the drawing of a design proposal. Then, the author continues by showing you why architectural presentation drawings should communicate as clearly and accurately as possible, the three-dimensional qualities of a design. Finally, he explains that drawing with a free hand holding a pen or pencil, remains the most intuitive means we have for graphically recording observations, thoughts and experiences.

Thank goodness for this book. This is the first art book that I have been able to work through. The concepts are explained in a way I understand. The exercises have definitely built my confidence in drawing.

Kindle version is unreadable.

I ordered the Kindle edition and I cannot read the text that goes with the illustrations. My eyesight is pretty good but the text is so small it is illegible. The illustrations are not very clear either. I would stay away from the Kindle and order the print version.

Great purchase!

I am a PT with 4 years of experience. I found this text as an invaluable resource to reference pathologies while studying for the OCS and my residency tests. Additionally, the clinical reasoning chapters were great to help build a foundation from which to approach a clinical examination. This however is not a "how to book" on how to sequence your examination. It is as it says 5 books in 1. Part 1 had decent background on tissue healing, radiology, pain behavior, biomechanics, etc. Part 2 and 3 had solid orthopedic reasoning and orthopedic pathology sections that are well-referenced. Haven't used the pharmacology or rehabilitation section much frankly. Moral of the story, for the cost, you most likely won't find a more helpful text. But, you will need to take the time to sit down and work through it to really get your money's worth. But using it as a reference tool alone is worth your cash.

This is a fantastic book!

I would highly recommend this book to any student or clinician who is interested in a book to help them improve as clinicians. It is written in a manner to provide quick bulleted information to the clinician and organized in a manner that is logical and easy to find. Clinical guidance is provided by some of the leaders in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation. The orthopedic pathology section should be a great help to any clinician because it provides valuable information regarding each pathology and provides information on which tests are the best, how long it should take to recover, and which interventions may be the best to help facilitate recovery. Overall, a great book and extremely valuable to both students and clinicians. Buy it, you won't regret it!

This text is very organized and great for entry level students, but contains plenty of research and differential diagnostic tools for the practitioner. The book is broken down into sections, going from very general to very specific. Can be very helpful in educating patients as well as honing clinical reasoning.

Cathy Lee Gibson (SPHR) is the Director of Human Resource Management Programs at Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations in New York City. Cathy has more than 20 years of progressively responsible generalist, specialist, and management experience in the field of human resources and has worked at small and large organizations, in educational settings, in for-profit, and in not-for-profit sectors. Cathy leads professional development programs for managers and human resources professionals on interviewing and performance management–and how to ensure that those functions have a more strategic impact on organizations. Do not recommend

I just took the PHR exam (and passed) last week and wanted to review the books I used. I found this Pearson guide to be the least helpful of all the books. It was not organized well, went into too much detail on some things and left out other points and was just way too cumbersome for test prep. It's a big book with a lot of text and has much too much in it to make anyone feel confident in their preparation. While I absolutely believe you should use more than one source (3-4 is optimal), I would say this one didn't add anything for me. Skip it!

General PHR Prep Advice: Use the Ann Bogardus PHR/SPHR book as your primary PHR test prep book. The Kaplan test prep book is light on the content but drills down to the big things very simply. I recommend reading the sections in Kaplan along with Bogardus. Kaplan has a few practice tests that are helpful. I also recommend getting a straight forward HR text book-- something that explains HR terms/concepts/legislation, etc with out the slant of the exam itself. Finally, take practice tests to familiarize yourself with questioning and to drill down to things you need to keep learning. Good for information, not as good to test your knowledge

I bought this book and the SHRM Learning System to help me prepare for the test, which I passed. The Learning System came with six individual books for each module, and I was surprised how well this one book compared to the whole SHRM set. I was a little disappointed, however, with the practice test in the back and the CD software. I suppose it might be a nit-picky complaint, but some of the given answers did not match up with the question. For example, there is a question that asks for you to compute the average of a set of numbers. There is one answer given in the answer key that is wrong, and then the written explanation has yet a different answer. Then, when reading through the explanation they are explaining why a certain answer is the mode, not the mean that the question asked for. This also happened with the questions on the software. I couldn't understand why "two" was an incorrect answer to the question of how many full time or equivalent employees an executive exemption was responsible for when I realized that the question referred to "executive" but the answer referred to "administrative" exemptions. It could be awfully confusing to someone who isn't all that familiar with some of the topics. I know I was devistated for a few minutes that I apparently couldn't calculate a simple average until I caught the problem.

Long story short, it's a good investment for what, less than $40? It makes a great complement to other resources (as mentioned earlier, no one resource has it all) but just check and double-check yourself when taking the tests to make sure you're not learning something incorrectly.

An economical choice

This study guide was a good economical choice compared to the SHRM Certification Test Course, which retails for about $500.00. Since the exam cost me about $200.00, I took my chances and ordered this book and another that focused on both PHR and SPHR. I primarily used this book and I passed!
I am a Business Administration Major with an emphasis in Human Resources. This book was extremely useful as a review. I gave myself one month to prepare for the exam... I strongly recommend at least two. There is a lot of useful information contained in this book. The author suggests researching key terms and other subjects not explained in the book. I strongly recommend listening to her. I dug out my text books and utilized the internt.
My advice is to buy the book, give yourelf plenty of time to study, and focus on the employment laws mentioned in the book.

Poor Amy. She just wants to get paid from her babysitting gig, but these men have a surprise for her. The virgin gets roughly deflowered and taken in every hole. A light-on-story heavy-on-action story that I just loved.
