His biggest opponent was not in the ring.

This is a well-detailed factual account of the life of one of the greatest boxing champions of all time. Aaron "The Hawk" Pryor could have defeated any man in his time. I believe he could have beaten Sugar Ray Leonard. In my fantasy boxing match-ups, I'd like to have seen him square off with Roberto Duran. They were both emotional, stubborn and fierce men. But Duran's vice was over-eating between matches and he lost too much juice making weight. That's why Duran lost his rematch with Sugar Ray Leonard. The great Aaron Pryor was one of the earliest and most pre-eminent victims of the crack cocaine epidemic which blighted all communities, but especially the black community. It was called "Rock" in the Hawk's days. Aaron could defeat the magnificent Alexis Arguello, one of the best total boxers of all time in the ring. But Aaron couldn't handle his own demons and the brutal self doubt and the seductive but totally false feelings of power which drugs gave him. This book is essential for the addict. But any reader will appreciate the honesty and integrity of this book. The Hawk doesn't spare us. He tells us everything. Few of us will ever achieve the greatness of Aaron Pryor. But we can learn something from his difficult journey. He flew as close to the sun as the mythical Icarus and got burned just as bad. But he survived and this is his story.

Tragedies and the inner power to overcome them are found in the real life story of Aaron is surreal but painfully accurate... The voice of Aaron comes from the book like he were sitting beside you and telling you his life story. His natural humor and "the truth that is stranger than fiction" style hold you to the book. Boxing is the thread in Aaron's book--humanity and friendship are the fabric. Read it for life!

About the Author
Dr. Carl S. Warren is Professor Emeritus of Accounting at the University of Georgia, Athens. Dr. Warren has taught classes at the University of Georgia, University of Iowa, Michigan State University, and University of Chicago. He focused his teaching efforts on principles of accounting and auditing. Dr. Warren received his PhD from Michigan State University and his BBA and MA from the University of Iowa. During his career, Dr. Warren published numerous articles in professional journals, including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accountancy, The CPA Journal, and Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory. Dr. Warren has served on numerous committees of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Institute of Internal Auditors. Bundle NOT included

While the title of the item is BUNDLE including CengageNOW access, the bundle is not actually included. Either Amazon or their sub-vendors charge extra for the bundle then fail to provide it. While the product description may say something along the lines of "CDs and other materials may not be included," the title clearly states you are purchasing a Bundle. This at best confusing, and at worst willful deception. In either case, I don't have the materials I need to complete my course work and am very dissatisfied with this product.

No Choice but to Use it...

I am using this book for a college class and it is filled with some strange accounting practices ( such as having consumable supplies as an asset and doing inventory regularly???) and some misleading statements that could cause problems later in other chapters. I know that there are other books out there that are less expensive and much more effective at getting the information across. The online Cengage is not perfect, errors have been found, but the practice is decent.

He has a background in SEI/CMMI Level 5, and has contributed architecture efforts to petabyte scale data warehouses and offers high quality on-line training and consulting services for Data Vault.

Michael has more than 15 years of experience in IT and has been working on business intelligence topics for the past eight years. Comprehensive Data Vault 2.0 reference manual

This book fills a huge void in Data Vault 2.0 resources. It covers everything about data vault, including data modeling, ETL processing, error handling, metadata, data quality and more, all explained in depth with sufficient examples that can be immediately put to use. Every question that I could think of relating to data vault is covered in the book. It is an excellent reference manual to have on hand while doing data vault implementations.

That said, I gave the book only four stars because there is always room for improvement. I was disappointed after reading Chapter 3, about the Data Vault 2.0 methodology. It appears that the authors threw in a bunch of various methodologies, frameworks, best practices and approaches without clearly explaining how all these parts fit together into a cohesive methodology.

The authors appear out of their depth in the project management space. They incorrectly apply the term PMP (Project Management Professional, a certification from the Project Management Institute) as a best practice. What they probably meant is that the project management aspect of the Data Vault 2.0 methodology is taken from the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge), a project management standard issued by the Project Management Institute.

I also don’t see why the authors included Scrum in the mix. The explanation of how Scrum is applied in mini-waterfall sprints is confusing and contradicting. For example, it is not clear how the Scrum roles such as scrum master and product owner translate into the mini-waterfall sprints. They state that Scrum is used for team coordination/team organization and that the team is self-organized while at the same time they designate the project manager as the person who plans the tasks within a mini-waterfall sprint. It is contradicting that on one hand the product owner participates in the sprints on a daily basis while on the other hand there is no user involvement during the development part of a sprint. In my opinion it would have been better to forget Scrum and just use the Agile Manifesto and its principles in order to bring agile thinking into the Data Vault 2.0 methodology.

Not your daddy's data warehouse!

Full disclosure: I am a huge Data Vault fan and did help with the earlier books (but not this one). This is the Data Vault book everyone has been clamoring for for years. We finally have a book that not only teaches you how to model a Data Vault but also shows you how to load data into a DV as well as how to build Information Marts on top of it to pull the data out for reporting. This book covers the full life cycle of developing an enterprise data warehouse in an agile manner using the Data Vault method. And to top it off, this book has all the details for the enhancements that came with Data Vault 2.0. This book is to Data Vault what Dr. Kimball's Data Warehouse Lifecycle book was to dimensional modeling. If oyu can only buy on data warehouse book this year - get this one.

The most detailed and complete data vault book ever written!

Finally, a Data Vault book that has everything you need from end-to-end to build a data vault warehouse from the ground up!

I've read the Supercharge Your Data Warehouse book from Dan, I've read all of Hans Hultgren's books, I've read and watched DV fundamentals training material, and I never really felt like I fully understood everything end to end. I grasped the big picture and was excited about the possibilities, but working alone after all of that I felt like I still didn't really have the tools I needed to complete a data vault on my own. With this book, I finally do!

This book takes you from concepts to implementation, from beginning to end. There are actual screen shots of how to create databases, what indexes to put on your vault tables, how to create an SSIS package, TSQL code, Master Data Services and Data Quality Services examples, there's MDX code, all of it. And it's not just details to get you to a data vault and then leaving you on your own to figure out the info marts, this takes you all the way to putting data in your dimension and fact tables.

All in all, this is the most complete Data Vault book that's ever been created and it's a fantastic value for the money. It's like 684 pages. Once I started, it was literally 8 hours a day for 4-5 days of plowing through all the information and going back and re-reading and getting more details out of it before I was done. It's not a book you can just flip through in a couple of hours. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone interested in data vault or data warehousing in general.

About the Author

Bilal M. Ayyub is a professor of civil and environmental engineering and the director of the Center for Technology and Systems Management in the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, where he has been since 1983. He is a leading authority in risk analysis, uncertainty modeling, decision analysis, and systems engineering. Dr. Ayyub earned degrees from Kuwait University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a fellow of the ASCE, the ASME, and the SNAME, and a senior member of the IEEE. Dr. Ayyub has served on many national committees and investigation boards and completed numerous research and development projects for governmental and private entities, including the National Science Foundation; the U.S. Air Force, Coast Guard, Army Corps of Engineers, Navy, and Department of Homeland Security; and insurance and engineering firms. He has received multiple ASNE Jimmie Hamilton Awards for best papers in the Naval Engineers Journal, the ASCE Outstanding Research-Oriented Paper in the Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management, the ASCE Edmund Friedman Award, the ASCE Walter Huber Research Prize, the K.S. Fu Award of NAFIPS, and the Department of the Army Public Service Award. Dr. Ayyub is the author/co-author of more than 550 publications in journals, conference proceedings, and reports, as well as 20 books, including Uncertainty Modeling and Analysis for Engineers and Scientists; Risk Analysis in Engineering and Economics; Elicitation of Expert Opinions for Uncertainty and Risks; Probability, Statistics and Reliability for Engineers and Scientists, Second Edition; and Numerical Methods for Engineers.

Richard H. McCuen is the Ben Dyer Professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Maryland. Dr. McCuen earned degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. His primary research interests are statistical hydrology and stormwater management. He has received the Icko Iben Award from the American Water Resource Association and was co-recipient of the Outstanding Research Award from the ASCE Water Resources, Planning and Management Division. He is the author/co-author of over 250 professional papers and 21 books, including Fundamentals of Civil Engineering: An Introduction to the ASCE Body of Knowledge; Modeling Hydrologic Change; Hydrologic Analysis and Design, Third Edition; The Elements of Academic Research; Estimating Debris Volumes for Flood Control; and Dynamic Communication for Engineers.

This textbook is required for a course I'm taking. I wish there were more examples to accompany the information. Additionally there are no solutions in the appendix to check your work. Lastly it is currently not supported on chegg.com. The book is fine otherwise.

This was a gift for my 8-year-old son. Thom is a HUGE fan (as in even dressing like him for Halloween huge) and we were genuinely bummed that DanTDM wasn't making any stops in the states for book signings. The book arrived properly packaged, well bound in a hardcover with a dust jacket. The illustrations are engagingly awesome. The story line is true to DanTDM style. I keep hearing Thom laugh in the other room while he's reading it. This is a really fun comic book and I highly recommend it to anyone who's a fan. DanTDM keep these coming.

They are huge fans of DANTDM, so I was super excited to surprised them with the arrival of this book. Of course it was a HUGE hit. They have read this book more than once.

From a parent point of view, I have to say that I love how well this book is put together. The pages are thick and glossy and it assembled really well. It's a great size and the brightly colored and fun illustrations make the book. Highly recommend to any DanTDM fan.

Nothing mind-blowing about the plot in this book, but it's definitely in keeping with DanTDM's videos. Kudos to the artist who managed to capture a Minecraft-like atmosphere without actually infringing on copyright (and that's not snarky - the art really is good!).

I got this for my 8yo who loves both Minecraft and DanTDM, and she's over the moon for it and reading it for the third time in two days.
