Omnius has been hiding a lot from the people of Avilon. The war with the Sythians is not what we thought, but that raises the question: iI not the Sythians, then what did Omnius go to fight in the Getties Cluster? Omnius knows what people will do before they do it. He predicts citizens' behavior, and, some suspect, he even makes those predictions come true. For those who wish to be free of his influence, Avilon's lowermost city, the crime-ridden, shadow-filled Null Zone, is the only option, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that not even the Nulls are free, and there is a more sinister reason behind The Choosing than the one Omnius gave.

As Omnius' predictions begin to come true, Ethan Ortane realizes he could lose the one thing that matters most to him in the universe - his family. Far from Avilon, the Sythians are hiding out in the neighboring Getties Cluster. Out there they discover something that isn't supposed to exist: a group of human rebels who escaped from Avilon. Their leader, Therius, seems to raise more questions than he answers, but he has a plan to defeat Omnius that just might work. As Therius' plan unfolds, people realize the terrible truth: He can't win by conventional means, and he knows it. The alternative is called the Armageddon Protocol, but it could mean the end of everything, not just Omnius....

Since there is an excellent synopsis of the story on Amazon's site
By B. Meyers
Since there is an excellent synopsis of the story on Amazon's site, and other reviewers have discussed some of the characters and plot, I won’t repeat what’s been said. I'd prefer to explain what appealed to me about the series and, this, the final book in the series.

I have an engineering background and have enjoyed reading science fiction since I was a kid, about 100 years ago. It seems like that anyway. I grew up reading Asimov, Bradbury, Heinlein, Clark, and many of the other greats of Science Fiction. What intrigued me about those books was, simply, the way the authors could tell a story. They painted a picture with words that could capture your imagination and make you a participant in the story rather than just an observer. They twisted and turned the plot to keep you reading until the surprise conclusion. Those authors are my reference points. I admit that I set a fairly high bar and many modern authors fall short in some aspect.

Oh, one more thing, I also prefer longer novels to shorter ones. The reason being that the author has more time to develop the characters to help the reader understand the character’s motivations through the twists and turns as the plot develops. If I develop a strong love, or hate, for a character then the author has done their job.

So, what does all of this have to do with “Dark Space: Armageddon”? Everything. I have enjoyed each book in the series but I liked this one the best. I believe that Jasper Scott has improved as an author through the series but, understand, I don’t think there was anything wrong with book 1. My one and only complaint about this book is that it’s the last one in the series.

Contains spoilers.

The plot is so twisted, with changing time frames, it gave me a headache. I had to slow down the pace, take breaks to allow the information to sink in, then return to the book. I had questions after finishing. A lot of questions. What are the origins of the night stalkers? How to explain the differing appearances compared to those in the stasis chambers? Why so many deaths? Just one genocide after another. How are the humans going to cope living with the predators in Paradise? With the ability to splice genes, why are the monsters still so dangerous? Why allow the planetary destruction if they already had the ability to preserve the evidence of the prior civilization?

Dark Space Armageddon - End of Series, But Great Story That Continues After You've Finished Reading!
By Bill Bass
I found this book - the much-anticipated culmination of the Dark Space series - to be first and foremost a thoroughly enjoyable read, which is my personal prime criterion for any SF book!

On a much deeper level, over the period from reading the first book in the series until finishing the last, I often found myself mulling over various events in the story line, or contemplating various of the many logical and philosophical challenges it presented.

Throughout the Dark Space series, author Scott has carefully crafted a number of memorable characters whose distinct personalities and all-too-human quirks were consistent throughout the series. The story itself had both adventure and pathos, cleverly combining current theoretical Physics with pure fiction against the counterpoint of concepts that many would relegate to religion. An intriguingly paradoxical dimension was added in that the characters' personas could exist in multiple physical instantiations - on occasion even simultaneously.

Mr. Scott managed to avoid the danger of chaos posed by having such a large number of characters, multiplicity of subplots, and overlapping timelines by adroitly weaving together a fascinating story line that remained coherent throughout.
