So poorly written it's unreadable

It's ironic that a book about training fails so horribly at presenting its material. There may be great material in this book, but it's almost impossible to extract it. I'm fairly certain that this book never came into the hands of an editor of any kind, because the writing and presentation is just plain awful. A college freshman in any introductory technical writing course could put together something far more coherent.
I'm fairly certain that the illustrations are all just hand-drawn. The choice of where to begin and end paragraphs seems to be completely arbitrary, the author clearly has no concept of how, when, or why to use commas, and the organization of the concepts themselves are quite puzzling. I only got to around page 30 before I gave up, but by then I had already had to backtrack in the book several times to pick up threads that were lost in the ramble.
Again, there might be great information in this book, but information is only as useful as it is accessible. If run-on sentences, subject-verb disagreement, misuse of idioms, etc. won't bother you, you might be able to get through it, but for anyone who actually needs their books to be written better than a high school term paper, spend your money elsewhere.

Informative and funny

This book is a practical guide to designing and facilitating a training seminar. It is an easy read with a lot of valuable tips and guidelines and it keeps you reading on simply because it is written in a very, very funny way. The author is an experienced trainer and gives examples for things a trainer should - and should not - do, and why! Many times did I have to laugh out loud simply because he describes those funny moments, things that can go wrong and how to prevent them. Truly informative and enjoyable at the same time.
I bought it to learn how to design a training program from scratch, and it is a wonderful guide for the rather inexperienced instructional designer. It would receive 5 stars from me, had it integrated an actual example. I realize that this is really difficult to do in a book, but maybe that can be done in the next edition.

Training From A Different Perspective

I found this book was developed from a trainer who I feel is a mustang. Mustang, to me, means that although Alan Matthews is a professional trainer, he has developed this skill practically as opposed to academically. This enables him to provide insights that are brought about through untutored instincts. This seems to result in some creative ideas as well as ideas outside of the normal acidemic box. Easy reading! Great practical suggestions for classroom training as well as modern E-learning training methods.
